Meta-owned photo and video sharing platform Instagram has apologized for writing 'terrorist' in the bios of Palestinian users.
According to a report by The Guardian, a few days ago, some Palestinian users on Instagram were seen writing 'terrorist' in their bios. It was pointed out by a Tik Tok user by making a video.
Now the official statement of Meta's spokesperson has come out in which he apologized. In users' bios, where 'Palestinian' was written in Arabic, it was translated as 'terrorist' in English.
Some users were also seen writing the following sentence in their bios: 'Alhamdulillah, Palestinian terrorists are fighting for their freedom.'
When a TikTok user's video became a topic of discussion on social media, Instagram fixed automatic translation. A Meta spokesperson told The Guardian that the issue had been resolved.
"We fixed the issue that caused some of our products to have inappropriate Arabic translations," the spokesperson said. We apologize.
