Delegation of the Republic of India visiting the Jagiellonian University

On October 13, at Collegium Novum, the Jagiellonian University's vice-rector for international cooperation, prof. Dorota Malec met with the Chairman of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations in the rank of Minister of State - Dr. Sahasrabuddhe Vinay , accompanied by Sudhansu Kumar Ray, Counselor of the Embassy of the Republic of India in Poland, and Satyasheel Lall, Second Secretary of the Embassy. The meeting was also attended by, among others: prof. Władysław Witalisz, Dean of the Faculty of Philology and Dr. Izabela Zawiska, head of the International Cooperation Department.

Prof. Dorota Malec started the meeting by presenting the Jagiellonian University as the oldest university in Poland and one of the oldest in Europe. During the meeting, the Jagiellonian University's relations with Indian universities were discussed, pointing out that their particularly intensive development began ten years ago, resulting in numerous projects carried out in the field of philological sciences and led to the signing of an agreement with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations in 2017 for Cultural Relations – ICCR ), facilitating exchange in the area of ​​artistic and literary endeavors. Prof. Dorota Malec assured the Jagiellonian University's constant readiness to strengthen contacts and cooperation with research and academic centers from India and to include researchers and students from this country in projects carried out by the University's scientists. The Vice-Rector of the Jagiellonian University emphasized that meetings of representatives of the Republic of India with the academic community of the Jagiellonian University, especially the students, are an excellent opportunity to exchange historical knowledge and cultural experiences.

Dr. Sahasrabuddhe Vinay noted that he sees the intellectual potential of Krakow and the Jagiellonian University, and also expressed his appreciation for scholars from the Jagiellonian University who conduct studies on the language, culture and history of India carried out by employees of the Department of Indian and South Asian Languages ​​and Cultures operating at the Faculty of Philology. Moreover, he pointed out that several thousand students from India are currently studying in Poland, which makes our country one of the countries where Indian academic youth are willing to study. The meeting was also an opportunity to discuss the existing cooperation between the Jagiellonian University and research centers in India, as well as the possibility of strengthening cooperation within the offer of short forms of mobility addressed to students and doctoral students as a component of part of the education program. An important point during the talks was the declaration of continuation of cooperation and academic exchange under the already signed bilateral agreements and the Erasmus+ ICM Program. Dr. Vinay indicated areas in which, in his opinion, cooperation between the Jagiellonian University and the Indian side can be further developed. He emphasized that Indian universities are ready to create dedicated exchange programs and summer schools in cooperation with the Polish side, thus supporting the education of Indian students in Poland. The President of the ICCR assured that India wants to use the opportunities and possibilities offered by international cooperation with universities in Poland even more effectively.
